About Moyo

Trust has to be shown. Moyo is a way to show it.

Moyo is an independent service that asks people, anonymously, how a product leaves them feeling, and reports what they say. It is made by 3sb.

People have stopped taking products at their word

Most people have used something that was described as helpful and left them more tired, more distracted or short on money. Over time they learn that what a company says about its own product is a claim made by the party that benefits from it.

The numbers companies usually report do not help. Daily active users, time in app and retention measure how much a product holds attention. They say nothing about whether the person wanted to spend that time, could stop when they meant to, or felt better afterwards.

Statements of good intent cost nothing to make, so they carry little weight. When there is no visible good will, people assume there is none.

Why a company would be measured by someone else

Trust comes from what a company is willing to give up. A result that the company can shape, filter or delete is easy to dismiss. A result it cannot touch is harder to argue with, whatever it says.

Moyo is built so the partner has as little control as possible over the outcome. The questions are fixed and published. Answers are anonymous and written once. Nothing below 50 responses is shown, to the partner or anyone else. A published certificate shows every reported dimension, updated daily, with a checksum anyone can verify.

Agreeing to those terms is itself a signal. It is something a company does, in public, that it cannot easily undo or stage.

Why it matters to the people asked

A check-in asks about a person’s state: whether they feel rested or drained, whether their time went the way they meant, what they put off. It does not ask whether they like the product.

Every question can be skipped. Nobody is asked more than once a week. Anyone can opt out of every Moyo check-in in every app, without an account and without giving a reason.

Answers go to an independent party that reports them as totals. For many people that is the first time a product has asked how it fits into their life and then been unable to hide the answer.

Why a third party, and why 3sb

An internal survey run by the company being measured has an obvious conflict. Moyo exists to sit between the two sides and report what it finds, with its own methods published so it can be checked as well.

Moyo is paid a flat price per check-in shown, the same whatever the results are. It has no reason to make a partner look better or worse.

What a partner gives up

Each of these is a control a company would normally keep.

Editing answers

Answers are written once. Neither the partner nor Moyo can change or delete them.

Choosing the wording

Questions are fixed and the same in every app, so results can be compared.

Seeing individuals

Partners only see totals from 50 or more people. No identity is stored with an answer.

Picking what is published

A public certificate shows every reported dimension, not a selection.

Choosing who is asked

Sessions are sampled at random. A partner cannot target or exclude groups of users.

Paying for a result

The price is per check-in shown and does not change with the readings.

Limits

What Moyo can’t tell you

01

Moyo does not rate or rank products, and a published certificate is not an endorsement. It reports how answers split.

02

Answers describe how people say they feel. They are self-reported and can be affected by mood, timing and who chooses to answer.

03

Moyo only hears from people who use the product. It cannot speak for people who stopped using it.

04

Readings change over time. A certificate reflects the last 30 days, not a permanent state.
